How to Prepare Your Dog for Boarding

1. Tire Them Out

On the day that your dog is to arrive at the kennel, take them on a nice long walk. This is a great way for anxious dogs to relax and be too tired to be fussy and anxious in the kennel, especially if it is their first time. If your dog is typically at home alone, take them to your local dog park to practice socializing with other dogs.

2. Have The Proper Vaccinations

Updated vaccinations are the best way to make sure your dog and the other dogs at the kennel stay safe and healthy. Most dog boarding facilities will request your dog to be fully vaccinated at least two weeks before their stay. Make sure you print and bring in copies of their vaccination status before arriving.

3. Bring Familiar Items

If you are leaving your dog for an extended period of time in dog boarding, be sure to bring a favorite toy with them to keep them company. Familiar smells of you and your home will provide them with comfort during their first few hours. However, your dog will probably be having a great time socializing with other dogs that you may find that they kept their toys untouched.
